Chair Yoga - by donation

This class is taught by:

Emma Faulkner

Emma arrived in the wonderful world of yoga, as she has in many other circumstances in her life, in a round about way! In the midst of busy university days, two friends asked her to join them in trying a belly dance class – and with an inclination for throwing herself into things, she shifted from student to performer and eventually to proprietor and instructor. As founder of Amanita Middle Eastern Dance she loves spending time wearing sparkly bits, and connecting with her lovely dance sisters! The dancers who inspired her the most, Rachel Bryce and the other tribal fusion pioneers, appear to move with extraordinary strength and fluidity, and after discovering that this had much to do with their strong yoga foundations, Emma launched herself into a new adventure, beginning with classes at Chinook in 2011, and evolving into teacher training and instruction. As her yoga path continues, Emma is drawn more and more to mantra, pranayama, kirtan, and some of the more physically still elements of the practice, which has been an unexpected yet pleasant surprise …the adventure continues!

Gillian Recknell

Gillian Recknell - outdoor enthusiast, forest bather, yogi; B.PE (exercise science) RYT 200

I have always loved and practiced yoga, mainly for the euphoria after a good stretch. In 2010 I developed chronic back pain and decided to take my practice deeper. Having a Kinesiology background I understood that a good yoga teacher was paramount to my recovery - one who understood biomechanics of the body. Several of the Chinook teachers became my mentors. I became stronger, my back healed and I was very much drawn to all the other health benefits from daily practice. I felt a deep shift happen from gaining better body awareness, presence, and truly understanding the meaning of less is more. In 2016 I completed my teacher training through SOYA , and my first level of yoga therapy training with Functional Synergy. Since then I have been teaching in various places throughout the community.
My goal as a yoga teacher is to help others find this shift - help them to move with more ease and have greater presence in their lives.

Kendra Mitchell-Foster

Kendra Mitchell-Foster, a yogini with more passion than poise, loves to find joy in everyday living and "ordinary" moments. Yoga has helped Kendra bring her life into positive focus, and to understand herself better. Urged by friends to begin a regular yoga practice 4 years ago, she has found yoga to be spiritually, emotionally, and physically transformational. Of the joy and purpose she has found here in PG, "I have been embraced by the community here in Prince George; this beautiful place and the beautiful people in it nurture, encourage and heal me. Joy Yoga is about sharing the light that has come into my life with others. If it is possible for me, it is possible for anyone."
Chair yoga is a gentle form of yoga that is practiced sitting on a chair, or standing using a chair for support.
