Yoga Foundations

This class is taught by:

Katrina Molendyk

...after completing her diploma in Human Kinetics in 2006 from CNC in Prince George Katrina knew she wanted to share health and wellness with others but didn't know in what way. She began practicing yoga for the physical benefits and when she began working for Lululemon in 2008, her love of yoga grew. Then when she became pregnant with her first child her practice deepened as she completely fell in love with how comfortable in her body and self that yoga made her feel during her pregnancy. Katrina enrolled in Trinity Yoga Centre's Yoga and Lifestyle Training program in Kelowna in October 2010 and graduated the following July as a Certified Kripalu Yoga teacher and Holistic Health Consultant. Yoga has helped her remain balanced in her busy life, heal from injury and break old patterns that were no longer serving her. She is very passionate about community and sharing and growing yoga through community. The Kripalu way of teaching has taught her to welcome compassion for herself and others, as well as helped her see that her practice is everyday both on and off the mat and every changing and growing.

Laura Sapergia

Initially drawn to yoga for strength building and other benefits, Laura quickly found that yoga is more than a fitness class, it is a way to be in the world. Laura has since found personal healing through building physical as well as emotional strength by incorporating yoga teachings into daily life. Laura offers open, accessible, and inclusive yoga classes that show the beauty and benefits of a regular yoga practice. She believes that yoga allows us to wake the teacher within so that we can be our genuine selves. Laura is from Prince George and completed her SOYA 200 RYT Certificate at Chinook Yoga in Spring 2016.

Ken Gleeson

...has been practicing and teaching yoga since the mid 90's. He is one of the founders of Chinook Yoga. Ken initially started practicing yoga as a form of exercise and stretching. He later became aware that yoga not only stretched and toned his body, making it stronger and more flexible, but also relieved stress from both body and mind.During his studies with SOYA Ken quickly realized that yoga was a spiritual journey for him. The philosophy laid out in the ancient yoga texts answered many questions on life for him, as well as verifying some of his thoughts and ideas on life. Ken integrates this feeling of spirituality into his yoga classes. In his yoga class Ken practices a flow style of yoga, moving from one pose to another, pausing briefly to experience each pose. He encourages students to work to their own level while respecting their body and any personal limitations they may have, but also provide the opportunity for personal challenge. Practicing yoga with these ideas in mind he guides, cautions and encourages students through the class.
Explore the basics of your yoga practice through the poses and breath work. This class is designed for those wanting a slower, gentle practice and suitable for beginners.
