Injury and Illness Recovery

Yoga is an extremely effective and proven therapeutic modality to help heal from injury and illness.

When you are moving through and experiencing a specific injury or illness, stress inevitably becomes or already is a factor in the experience.

Yoga combats stress and activates the body’s natural relaxation response.

Chronic stress can lead to a variety of health and emotional problems. Yoga can be an effective method to reduce stress and anxiety. Yoga brings together physical and mental disciplines to achieve peacefulness of body and mind, helping you relax and manage stress and anxiety. Practicing relaxation techniques including breathe awareness, visualization, meditation, and yoga can help reduce everyday stress and boost your energy and mood. They’ll also help you to stay calm in the face of life’s unexpected events. When stressors throw your nervous system out of balance, relaxation techniques can bring it back into a balanced state by producing the relaxation response, a state of deep calmness that is the polar opposite of the stress response.

Injury and / or Illness very typically will involve poor and / or compensatory movement patterns that have developed as part of the body’s physical response to keep you as functional as possible.

A Yoga practice creates a space for you to get quiet and still enough to notice poor movement patterns and genuinely listen to your body.

Once you have practiced moving into stillness and being comfortable here, you will then start to notice better your bodies whispers and dysfunctions.  Then with this awareness you can move into more functional movement patterns connected with the ease of the breath.  This combination develops strength built upon ease, which then moves the yoga student into improved function and therefore doing what whatever it is they love to do.

Enduring life’s challenges as well as dealing with an injury and / or illness can keep your mind busy and possibly pondering the future.

A practice of present moment breathe awareness is very effective at creating a sense of grounding and peace.

The more opportunities you create for yourself to nourish this peace and relaxation in your body the more your mind has an opportunity to be in the present moment, a healthy, grounded place to be…it just takes practice.
